Eva Virginia Chandler Maples

Eva Virginia aka Jennie Chandler was one of the nine known children born to William Robert Chandler and Eliza C. Moon Chandler. Her oldest sibling, Almira Jane Chandler, was born in 1831. Her youngest sibling, Eliza America Chandler, was born in 1855. Jennie, born 3 Aug 1847, was pretty much in the middle of the family. The range between oldest and youngest siblings was 24 years.

Jennie married John Preston Maples on 22 Dec 1872. He was the son of James Maples and Edith Caroline Patterson Maples. Born to this union were six children from the years 1873 to 1888. Only one baby, an infant son, did not survive beyond infancy, living only two months. The later years brought the death in 1911 of a married daughter, Harriet Catherine Maples Lyon. Though not all survived, Jennie and John saw the birth of almost 30 grandchildren in their lifetimes.

George Washington Maples, the widowed brother of John Preston Maples, married Jennie's sister, Eliza America Chandler Cobb, in 1887. Both George and America were widowed and neither had children.

John Preston Maples died in 18 Jun 1925 and Jennie followed him in death on 21 Jul 1929. Both are buried at Chandler Cemetery. No formal obituaries have been found for either.

Her paternal grandparents were Josiah Chandler and Mary Polly Roberts Chandler*. Her maternal grandparents were John Moon and Mary Lewis Moon.

*Ongoing research for Josiah Chandler and Mary Polly Roberts Chandler.
