Obituary of Mrs. America Maples (Eliza America Chandler)

"Funeral Is Held For Mrs. Maples: Rites for Buggs Chapel Woman Conducted This Morning

Funeral services were held this morning for Mrs. America Maples, widow of the late George Maples, of Bugg's Chapel, who died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Laura Worley, yesterday morning at 8 o'clock.

Mrs. Maples, a member of the Christian church, had been in failing health a number of years.

She was 84 years old.

Rites were held this morning at 10 o'clock at the Baptist church at Bugg's Chapel. The Rev. Henry Branum and the Rev. Roy Stone conducted the services. Burial following in Chandler Cemetery, with Butler Brothers of New Hope in charge of arrangements.

Surviving besides the niece mentioned are a number of other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Robert, Fred, Harry, Floyd, Clifton, and Tom Chandler."

Eliza America Chandler and Eleazer C. Cobb married on 23 Dec 1879. On 21 Jul 1881, Eleazer C. Cobb died. Eliza America Cobb remained a widow until her marriage to George Washington Maples on 18 Oct 1887.

She was the daughter of William Robert Chandler and Eliza C. Moon Chandler. Her paternal grandparents were Josiah Chandler and Mary Polly Roberts.* Her maternal grandparents were John Moon and Mary Lewis.
