Allen Clement Chandler
5 Oct 1851 - 4 Sep 1910

Allen Clement Chandler was the youngest son in the family of William Robert and Eliza Moon Chandler. His father was 53 and his mother was 39 at the time of his birth, fairly old to be parents at the time.

Siblings were:

Almira Jane Chandler (1831-after 1870)
John M. Chandler (1834-after 1870)
Hester Ann Chandler (1840-1910)
Nathaniel Green Chandler (1841-1918)
Eva Virginia Chandler (1847-1929)
Harriet C. Chandler (1848-1874)
Eliza America Chandler (1855-1939)

Most likely a son named Jackson Chandler died at the age of 14 in September 1850. This death was recorded on the 1850 Mortality Census and this is a probable son since no other Chandlers lived in Madison County, Alabama at that time. Also, on the 1840 census for W.R. Chandler, there were two sons listed in that age category and only one is there on the December 1850.

Allen C. Chandler and Harriet Elizabeth Branum married on 12 Nov 1872 (date of marriage license) in Madison County, Alabama. Harriet Elizabeth was the daughter of Richard and Julia Smith Branum of Gurley.

There were five children born to Allen and Harriet Chandler:

John William "John Will" (1874-1952)
Richard Joseph Wade "Joe Wade" (1876-1961)
Mary Etta (1880-1914)
Arthur C. (1889-1957)
Nathaniel Thomas "N.T." (1894-1970)

Allen was a farmer all of his life after beginning work as a boy with his father, and later owned his farm and home in the Owens Cross Roads area. Though he did not live to meet all of his grandchildren there were twelve surviving grandchildren at the time of his widow's death. Harriet Elizabeth Chandler lived in Owens Cross Roads until her death 26 Feb 1940. They are both buried at Chandler Cemetery.

Paternal grandparents may have been Josiah Chandler, born in Halifax County, Virginia and died in Caswell County, North Carolina and Mary Polly Roberts.* Maternal grandparents were John Moon, born abt 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died April 1844 in Madison County, Alabama and Mary Lewis, died abt 1820 in Madison County, Alabama.
