Daughter of Simeon Wilson and Nancy Williford. She married Gabriel Jackson, probably common-law. There are several mysteries surrounding Sally.
Sarah was born circa 1828. The census gives conflicting birth years. The ages given in the 1850 thru 1880 census indicate she was born 1828, 1830, 1830, 1827 respectively. The date of her death is unknown. Her last appearance in public records is an 1890 Leslie County deed to which she is a party. She is not found in the 1900 or later censuses. Her burial place is unknown. Sally is very likely buried Sims Branch Cemetery at Helton, her grave marked by a fieldstone.
She was living adjacent to the cemetery in 1880 with her mother. She owned the land occupied by the cemetery at one point. It’s also possible that she got feeble in her old age and went to live with her son John on Greasy Creek or her grandson George on Oldhouse Branch at the Harlan/Leslie line and is buried at one of those locations.
Gabriel Jackson was born circa 1830 and died before 1870. It's unclear whether they were legally married. No marriage record has been found. He was the son of Garnet Jackson (bc 1785 NC) and Nancy Salyer (bc 1785 VA). His burial place is unknown. Sally and Gabriel’s children are with Simeon Wilson in 1860 (John b 1853 Floyd, George b 1855 Clay).
Gabriel Jackson is in the 1854 Floyd Tax List. He married Rhoda Hoskins 1854 Floyd.
Sally Jackson age 30 spinner/weaver is in the 1860 Floyd County census living in the household (#84) of Nelson Salyers 63 and wife Kate 37. Nelson was a former neighbor of Sim Wilson and is the brother to Garnet Jackson's wife (Gabriel's mother). Gabriel age 27 is household H372 with wife Rhoda Hoskins in 1860 Magoffin. Rhoda is listed as a widow in 1870.
Consider the timeline of the Gabriel Jackson/ Sally Wilson relationship:
John Jackson born 1853 Floyd
Gabriel on 1854 Floyd tax list, marries Rhoda Hoskins there that year
George Jackson born 1855 Clay
Gabriel and Rhoda in Magoffin 1860, Sally with Uncle Nelson in Floyd, their children with Simeon in Clay
Gabe probably killed Oct 1863. At any rate he is dead by 1870 unless Rhoda is using the term widow loosely ( as was popular in the early 20th century for divorced persons)
1870 Sally back in Clay with son John and his new wife Rebecca and their son George
1871 Matt Jackson born. His father is a total mystery. He probably carried the Jackson name only because his mother was going by that name.
One Gabrial Jackson (Union) was killed in skirmish at Ivy Point Hill Magoffin County Oct 10, 1863 per letter to KY Explorer July 2002 (he was the only Union casualty). He was likely this Gabriel Jackson. This Gabriel Jackson was living in Magoffin County at this time. The legal wife of this Gabriel was a widow in 1870. The soldier killed was likely in a Home Guard unit, since he is found on the roster of no federal unit. Ivy Point Hill is a point one mile outside the town of Salyersville. There were at least two other skirmishes or battles at Ivy Point Hill. One was 11-30-1863 with several casualties and several Union soldiers taken prisoner (several of whom died at the infamous Andersonville Prison). The biggest action, usually known as the Battle of Salyersville, occurred 10-14-1864.

He was a railroad worker, Madison is in 1880 household of Nancy Williford (as is Sally, a widow) listed as grandson (of Nancy). He is surely a son of Sally, but very unlikely to be a son of Gabriel.. Taylor Brown lists him as a child.
