Nancy b circa 1830 d after 1910 m James C Bailey b circa 1832 d 10-31-1863 . They married 11-6-51 Harlan. Nancy’s burial place is unknown. The last public record of her is the 1910 census. She is found on Salt Trace Branch (post office Salts) in Harlan County, KY. She is very likely buried on Salt Trace. There are two cemeteries: The Lower Salt Trace Cemetery is located at the junction of KY 1780 and KY 221. The Upper Salt Trace Cemetery is located at the head of the Left Fork of Salt Trace, off KY 1780. She could as easily be buried one as the other. One daughter and probably two are buried in the lower cemetery. One great granddaughter says she had always heard she was buried in Greenhill Cemetery at Bledsoe where her son John S Bailey is buried, but that is about 10 miles north of where she lived. No death certificate has been found for her. Her exact date of death is unknown.
Nancy gives conflicting birth years. The ages Nancy gives in the 1850 thru 1870 and 1910 censuses indicate she was born 1831, 1830, 1835, and 1833 respectively. However the 1830 census supports an 1830 date. There are 3 females under 5 in Simeon's 1830 household. Catherine 4 and Sally 2 are the other two.

James C Bailey was the son of Captain John Bailey and Hannah Smith.
James C Bailey was a Private Co E 49th KY Infantry. Nancy applied for pension in 1887 saying James was on detached duty when killed by rebels 10-31-1863. Nancy implies she witnessed his death. War Dept states he was listed as deserted 5 Oct 63 and 10 Oct 63 at Camp Nelson, 'records of this office furnish no evidence of death'. Note on pension file indicates Nancy abandoned her claim to a pension in 1908. Various dates have been given for James death in CW, all inconsistent with Nancy's claim. He is likely the J. Bailey (but not certainly), no death date or unit given, listed on the Roll of Honor as killed at Cumberland Ford, KY (Pineville) and re-interred in Knoxville National Cemetery circle 13 grave 4 (number on back of tombstone is A2598). The Roll of Honor is a list of fallen Union soldiers published by the War Department in 1867.

James and Nancy's daughter, Stacey, married James Burkhart who was a brother to Perlina who married John Stanton Bailey.
Taylor Brown lists these children for Stacey Bailey and James Burkhart:
1. George
2. Nancy Jane
3. Dock
4. John
Francis Bailey writing on KYKINFOLK, the Sue Morrow website indicates:
"James Burkhart left Harlan, KY with his children from his marriage to Stacy Bailey . He went to Van Buren, Arkansas and married Elizabeth McCarty who may have had children from a previous marriage. Elizabeth McCarty and James Burkhart had 9 more children. Leander was the 4th child of James and Stacy Burkhart but I in my research, there was a 5th child, an infant that died. I do not know if Stacy Bailey died or was divorced from James Burkhart. I suspect she died in childbirth with the 5th child."
