John passed away peacefully the morning of March 9 at the age of 89 with his wife and a daughter by his side.

John was born in Dardenelle, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his three brothers, Seth, Gordon, and Neil. He is survived by his twin sister Kittie, and sister Nina who live in Arkansas.

He joined the Navy in 1934. He spent many of his 32 years at sea, in the Pacific Fleet. On December 7, 1941 John was on the Island of Tutuila working as a radioman when he received word Pearl Harbor was under attack. His base was shelled by an enemy submarine just a short time later. In 1958 he was assigned as an instructor of communications at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, where he worked until his retirement in 1964.

He was an avid golfer up until last year, at his beloved Monterey Pines Golf Course. Among his many talents, he was an actor, singer, musician, and ham radioman.

John is survived by Effie, his wife of 59 yrs, his sons, John, Mike and Seth, his daughters, Mary K, Jean, Anna and Brenda, all of whom reside in the Central California area. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

One of his favorite sayings and a sweet ending to the story of his life, was 'May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You, and hold you in the palm of His hand'.
