Lethia H. Carter, 74, of RD 6, Creamer Drive, Pittsgrove Township, died Wednesday afternoon in Bridgeton Hospital, where she was a patient one month. She had been in declining health for three years.

Born in Dover, Del., the daughter of the late John Coker and Phebe Carney Coker Reed, she was the wife of the late Hopewell Carter. In her earlier years she resided in Elmer and later moved to Rockville Road in Fairton. She had lived at her present address 11 years.

Mrs. Carter began her working career with the Vineland State School, where she served in the housekeeping department. She later took up employment with Bridgeton Hospital, where she worked in the kitchen. In more recent years, she did domestic work for several area families.

She was a member of St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Surviving are three sons, Perry W. Carter of San Mateo, Calif., John C. Carter of Raton, N.M., and Donald L. Carter of Bridgeton; a daughter, S. Evelyn Schroeder with whom she resided; four brothers, John Coker of Cheswold, Del., Frankford Coker of Washington, D.C., Isaac Edward Reed Sr. of Fairton and Robert Allen Reed of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Marion Hughes of Fairton and Edna Loatman of Cedarville; 11 grandchildren and a great granddaughter. She was predeceased by a son, LeRoy A. Carter; a brother, James H. Coker, and her stepfather, Isaac Luther Reed.

Services will be held from the Carll-Peterson-Ilacqua Funeral Home, 208 E. Commerce St., on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dale R. Johnston, pastor of St. John's First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and the Rev. Francis E. Champion, pastor of the Fortescue Chapel, sharing the services.

Interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park.

Friends will be received Sunday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Bridgeton Hospital Foundation, Irving and Manheim Avenues, Bridgeton, N.J. 08302.
