Isaac Edward Reed Sr., "Chief," of Fairfield Township, died Friday morning at his residence. He had been in failing health for the last year.

Born in Bridgeton to the late Luther and Phoebe Carney Reed, Mr. Reed was a lifetime resident of Fairfield Township. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed at Woodriff Oil Co. for 23 years. Before that he was a self-employed farmer as well as working for the former George T. Burt Co. in Fairton for several years. He was a member of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Tribe and the former 40 Stag Gunning Club and the Pony Trotter's Association. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed caring for his garden and lawn.

Survivors include: three sons, Isaac E. Reed, Jr., Robert Lewis Reed and John Luther Reed, all of Fairfield Township; two daughters, Ellen Lillian Grigsby of Dover, Del., and Donna J. Morris of Fairfield Township; a brother, Robert Reed of Dover, Del.; two sisters, Edna Loatman and Marion Hughes, both of Fairfield Township; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lillian Robinson Reed, and a sister, Lethia Carter.

The Rev. Francis E. Champion will conduct the funeral services at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fordville Memorial Park, Fairfield Township. Friends may call at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mr. Reed's memory to Cumberland County Homemakers, 10 Buck St., Millville, N.J. 08332 or to HospiceCare of South Jersey, 2848 South Delsea Drive, Vineland, NJ 08360.
