Obituary:

Robert A. Reed, age 83, of Cheswold, Del., and formerly of Carmel, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township.

Born in Fairfield Township on Aug. 23, 1926, he was the son of the late Isaac Luther Reed and Phoebe Carney Reed. He had been a Cheswold area resident since 1966 moving to Delaware from Carmel.

Mr. Reed was a truck driver with the National Freight Company in Vineland for many years and until his retirement in 2000 was a self-employed painter in the Dover, Del., and Salem, N.J. areas.

He is survived by two sisters, Marion Hughes and Edna M. Loatman, both of Fairfield Township; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by five brothers, Edward and Joseph Reed and John, Frank and Ted Coker; and a sister, Lethia Carter.

Funeral services will be held at the Padgett Funeral Home, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Township, on Friday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Cedarville. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from noon to 1 p.m., prior to the services.
