Grant Zufelt
Fletcher Grant Zufelt, 48, native of Sigurd and one of the top jockeys on the west coast for many years, died Oct. 27 in a Seattle. Wash., hospital after a brief illness. He resided at Renton, Wash.
Mr. Zufelt was born in Sigurd and became a jockey when he was about 17. He had not ridden the past few years. In 1944, he was the top jockey at Long-acres in Washington.
Mr. Zufelt had resided in Renton the past six years. Prior to that he resided in Enumclaw six years. He had lived previously in California.
Survivors are his wife, Maxine; sons, Eugene and Burke, both of Renton; mother, Mrs. Sara Zufelt, San Jose, Calif.; father, Richard V. R. Zufelt, Pleasanton, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Peggy Susanj, Seattle; Mrs. Mary Collings. Oak Harbor, Wash.; Mrs. Marjorie Chelonis, Saratoga, Calif.; Mrs. Nelda Sorensen, Salina and Mrs. Madge Knight, Maryland; eight brothers, DeVaun, Logan; Don, Sacramento, Calif.; Ralph, Los Angeles; R. B. and Douglas, both Santa Clara, Calif.; Ferrill, Pleasonton, Calif., also a jockey; Roger, San Jose and Gary, Carmichael, Calif.
