Mrs. Harriet H. C. Murchie, 85, widow of Henry S. Murchie, late treasurer of the Murchie Lands Company and Treasurer of the St. Croix Logging Company, died yesterday at her home in Calais after a short illness.
She was born in East Machias, Maine, Nov 15, 1884, to General John Curtis Caldwell and Martha Foster Caldwell. Her father was Headmaster of the Washington Academy prior to the Civil War and rose to the rank of Brig General. He later served as a State Department Diplomat in the Grant Administration.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Murchie (1937) and her son Ralph Murchie (1936). She is survived by a son, Harry Murchie of Jacksonville, Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2pm at the residence on Church Street by Rev. Raymond Bates. Burial will be in the Rural Cemetery in St. Stephen, N.B.
