Wife of Civil War Brig General John C. Caldwell, she is buried next to him.

She had 6 children, 3 died at childbirth, and 3 lived to be adults. During her lifetime she and her husband lived in Maine, Costa Rica, and Kansas. These moves were due to the jobs her husband had at the time as an educator, lawyer, Army officer, and US diplomate.

She was living in Kansas in 1911 and visiting her daughter in Maine when she became ill and passed away. Her daughter, Harriet C. Murchie, had her buried in the Murchie family cemetery in New Brunswick, Canada, just across the river. In later years, her husband and daughter would also be buried near her.
