From the Charleston Daily Mail, 24 Feb 1969:

FIVE KILLED ON WEEKEND--
Five persons died on West Virginia highways during the weekend....

The last to die was Odell Harris, in his 20's, of Wharton. He was killed and three others injured on W. Va. 85 at Wharton last night when a car spun out of control on a curve....

Harris was killed in the Boone County accident which involved a 1969 Mustang....

State police said the car overshot a curve and ran off the highway. It traveled through a field, then swerved back onto the highway and struck a utility pole and flipped over.

Boone County Sheriff Ed Cook estimated the car skidded out of control for about 400 feet before striking the pole.

The driver and another passenger ... were admitted to Boone Memorial Hospital and are in satisfactory condition.

The fourth person was treated and released....

Harris' body was taken to the Hunter and Hunter Funeral Home in Madison. Investigating officers were Troopers C. W. Rumbaugh and J. F. Starcher, Deputy Sheriff Bethel Miller and Constable Jack McCarty.
