Hubert C. Cairnes, 84, of Hemlock Road, Horse Shoe, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, a son of the late Walter and Mary Cairnes. He was a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation and a member of Boylston Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Burdean Ashe Cairnes; a daughter, Janice Cairnes King of Horse Shoe; a son, Michael Cairnes and his wife, Michelle, of Hendersonville; two brothers, Walter Lee Cairnes and his wife, Wilma, and Olen Cairnes and his wife, Evah, of Horse Shoe; two sisters, Edna Gevedon of Knoxville, Tenn., and Viola Allison and her husband, James, of Horse Shoe; two grandchildren, Jessica and Richard; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Boylston Baptist Church. The Rev. Ralph Banning will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the WNC Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 31 College Place, Suite D-320, Asheville, N.C. 28801 or to Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731.
