Langdon Cheves Easton of Missouri entered West Point in 1833, and was graduated in 1838.
As second Lieutenant, Sixth Infantry. He was first lieutenant in regiment 1839-51, meanwhile being appointed
captain, assistant quartermaster, assigned quartermaster in 1847. He became major quartermaster Aug 3, 1861; lieutenant colonel, quartermaster, assigned in 1863; and colonel quartermaster assigned in 1864. In 1864 also he was brevetted lieutenant colonel and then brigadier general "for distinguished and important service in the Quartermaster Department in the campaign terminating in the capture of Atlanta, Georgia and major general in 1865 for meritorious service during the war [Langdon was Sherman's Chief Quatermaster; "Southern Storm Sherman's march to the Sea" cje]. His commission as colonel terminated in 1867, but meanwhile he had been appointed lieutenant colonel, deputy quartermaster general, and in 1872 he became colonel assistant quartermaster general. He retired in 1881 and died in April 29, 1884.
