They had three children, Edward Flack Lane (1888), Calvin Alley Lane (1890), and Mattie Leah Lane (1891), who all died in infancy. As recorded in the records of Salem Methodist Church in Saline County, Arkansas, Nettie died of "LaGrippe" in 1891. Her death is also recorded in the family bible. Nettie died a few months prior to the death of their youngest child. The burial places of Nettie and the children are unknown. It is possible that they were buried in unmarked graves at Snow Cemetery in Saline County, Arkansas.

The Lanes, with their three surviving daughters, moved to San Antonio, Texas in about 1914.
