John Calvin Lane was the son of Felix Donald Lane (1827 – 1881) and Leah Phillips (1827 – 1867). Their burial places are unknow to me at this time. Felix Lane married Malinda Catherine Everett about 1868 or 1869.

John Calvin Lane was the stepson of Malinda Catherine Everett Lane. In 1884, after athe death of Felix, Malinda married Reverend John Pinckney Alley. Two of Malinda Everett Lane Alley's stepdaughters married John Calvin.

In 1887, at Lonoke, Arkansas, John Calvin married Georgianna "Nettie" Alley (1869-1891). They had three children, Edward Flack Lane (1888), Calvin Alley Lane (1890), and Mattie Leah Lane (1891), who all died in infancy. As recorded in the records of Salem Methodist Church in Saline County, Arkansas, Nettie died of "LaGrippe" in 1891. Her death is also recorded in the family bible. Nettie died a few months prior to the death of their youngest child. The burial places of Nettie and the children are unknown. It is possible that they were buried in unmarked graves at Snow Cemetery in Saline County, Arkansas.

In 1895 in Lonoke, Arkansas, John Calvin married Nettie's younger sister Julia Effie Alley (1871-1948). Their children Claude Albert Lane (1894-1900), John S Lane (b.1898-1911), Ruth Effie Lane Briscoe (1902-1987), Nona Mae Lane Beck (1904-1925), and Alva Augusta Lane Irvin (1906-1926) were born in Arkansas. The Lanes, with their three surviving daughters, moved to San Antonio, Texas in about 1914.

According to his death certificate, John Calvin died due to pulmonary tuberculosis and was buried in Mission Burial Park.
