Longtime Gresham resident Pauline "Delaine" Coombs, 85, died Friday, March 2, at her daughter's home in Portland.

Viewing will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Blue Lake Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22801 S.E. Stark St., Gresham, followed by a funeral at 11 a.m.

Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 S.E. Mount Scott Blvd., Portland.

Delaine was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Grace, Idaho, to Nathan Kilby Van Noy and Paulyn Jensine Peterson. She was raised and educated in Preston, Idaho, where she graduated from high school
On Aug. 13, 1946, Delaine married George Willes Coombs in Logan, Utah. They made their home in Ogden, Utah, and Pasco, Wash., before moving to Gresham in 1959.

She worked for J.C. Penney and retired in 1987 after 20 years with the company.

Delaine enjoyed baking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, tole painting and other crafts. She also liked spending time with her family, playing solitaire, Scrabble, dominoes and Uno, camping, fishing and traveling.

In 1990, Delaine was preceded in death by her husband. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Delene Fowles; and son, Ronny Hunter.

Survivors include her sons, George Coombs of Fresno, Calif., and Mark Coombs and Kenneth Coombs, both of Gresham; daughter, Kathryn Hyde of Portland; sister, Jean Layne of Utah; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
