Former Premier's Son Dies Recently in B.C. - A former Island man, Dr. John Francis Haszard, died recently in Kimberley, British Columbia (should be Vancouver), at the age of 74. He was the son of F. Born in Charlottetown in 1892, he graduated from McGill University as a doctor in 1917. He enlisted with the Canadian Medical Corps serving from 1917 to 1919. In 1928 he came to Kimberley, where he practised until 1939. In World War Two, he enlisted with the rank of lieutenant-colonel and was commanding officer of Calgary's 8th Field Ambulance.

During this time he was awarded the Order of the White Lion of Czechoslovakia, one of the highest awards this country gives.
He was demobilized in 1945 and then served with the Workmen's Compensation Board for a year as chief medical officer. In 1947 he returned to Kimberley and was instrumental in the establishment of the J.S. Haszard Clinic, retiring in 1965.
He was made a senior member of the Canadian Medical Association in 1963. Two years ago he was named Kimberley's 'citizen of the year'. He had practiced both in Trail and Kimberley.
