Victor Hargitt Thevenow was born the son of Thomas and Helen Thevenow on August 16, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA while his father played baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Vic grew up in Madison, IN at his family's home on West Second Street.
Brilliant and determined, stubborn and hardworking, thoughtful and loving, inquisitive and bold; Vic knew what he wanted and went for it. He was a Boy Scout, captain of the Madison High School basketball team, a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a metallurgical engineering graduate of Purdue University. He invented and sold a toy called the knop-wop during the years he worked for Kaiser Steel in California, helped develop the alloys that built the Virst Lunar Module and modern aircraft engines while working for General Motors, spied on the Soviets during an engineering conference in Canada, built the Star Food Store grocery empire at the last corner store in his beloved Madison, and loved every moment spent at his farm among his cows and trees. The advice he gave, the work he did, the ideas he shared, and the stories he told will forever live in the hearts of those who know and love him.
Vic died at the home he loved on December 16th, 2022 with family at his side. His life will forever be cherished and remembered by his wife, Susan, their dog Shep, and his children Patrick Thevenow, Katie Thevenow, Julie Thevenow, Laura Macon, and Victor "Bud" Thevenow. His sister Sarah Whicker of Bedford, KY, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins further survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.
Services will be private as Vic wanted not a single penny wasted on a funeral. If desired, donations can be made in his memory to Springdale Cemetery. "Inpinetaris Inoaknunis Inmudeelsare Inclaynunis".
