Robert Matthias Barth was the fourth of five children of Swiss theologian Karl Barth and his wife, Nelly. At the age of 20 he fell to his death in a tragic climbing accident on the Frundenhorn mountain. His father preached his funeral sermon, which can be found in "This Incomplete One: Words Occasioned by the Death of a Young Person." That sermon is based on 1 Corinthians 13:12, "For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known."
