US Congressman. In 1916 he was elected to the Illinois State House of Representatives but resigned to attend Reserve Officers' Training. He served again in the State House from 1917 to 1932. He was also a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve 1938 to 1941. In 1935, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth and to the two succeeding Congresses, serving until 1941. In 1943, he was reelected the Seventy-eighth and to the three succeeding Congresses. He died while in office.
