Ralph E. Church, 86, of Vero Beach, FL, died Wednesday, June 6 at his residence. He was born Dec. 14, 1920 in Evanston, IL and had been a resident of Indian River County for 25 years coming from Chicago, IL.

Mr. Church was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a Lieutenant during WWII as well as a naval architect designing submarines. Mr. Church was a senior partner in the law firm of Neuman, Williams, Anderson and Olson as a Patent Attorney.

He was a former member of the Chicago Yacht Club, the Vero Beach Yacht Club, and most recently, a member of the Moorings Club and Moorings Yacht Club. He served on the Moorings Property Owners Association Board and was former president of the North Passage Condo Association. He won First Prize twice in the Moorings Christmas Boat Parade. He was an avid yachtsman and fisherman, as well as an enthusiastic carpenter.

He was a graduate of St. Albans Prep School, Washington, DC. He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Engineering (Class of 1942) and he received his law degree from Northwestern University Law School in 1948. He was co-editor of the Princeton University Year Book Bric-A-Brac, a member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations, and a member of the Princeton Club of Vero Beach. He was an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Church was a former State Representative for the State of Illinois, President of the Young Republican Club of Illinois. He was born to the late U.S. Congressman Ralph Edwin Church and the late U.S. Congresswoman Marguerite Stitt Church.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marion Church of Vero Beach; three sons: David R. Church of Michigan, John C. Church (Sue) of Libertyville, IL, Austin T. Church (Marcia) of Pullman, WA; 2 daughters, Deborah C. Sarrif (Awni) of Hockessin, DE and Sara Church of Minneapolis, MN; brother, William S. Church, of Chicago, IL, brother-in-law, William A. Phillips of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sister, Marjory Barnum.
A graveside Inturment service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 23rd at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of Mr. Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
