BEMENT – Martha Adkins Wallbaum, 92, of Springfield, died 10:20 a.m. Monday (Nov. 18, 2002) in Capitol Care Nursing Home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel, Springfield, with visitation 11 a.m. until services. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery.

She was born Feb 22, 1910, in Bement, the daughter of Charles and Dora Farrow Adkins. She grew up in Decatur, attended Decatur public schools and attended Millikin University and the University of Illinois. She was very active in the Woman’s Republican Politics having helped organize the Cass County Woman’s Club and at one time was a delegate to the Woman’s National Convention in Washington, D.C. She married William Conaway Wallbaum in 1933. He preceded her in death in 1941. After the death of her husband in 1941, she was employed for several years in the Department of Mental Health, having been a dietitian at the School for the Visually Handicapped in Jacksonville and a dietitian at Research Hospital in Galesburg. She served with the University of Illinois as a dietitian at Robert Allerton Park. She was also manager of the Town and Country Inn in Fairfield, Iowa. She was very active in the Delta Delta Delta College Sorority Alumni Association and active with St. John’s Adult Day Care Center. She was a longtime member of Ashland Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Duke Wallbaum of Springfield.
