Morton woman was 101
MORTON - Helen R. Reed, 101, of Morton passed away at 6:33 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born March 10, 1913, in Minier, Ill., to Frank O. and Wilma Ann (Garrison) Emory. She married Charley E. Reed on Oct. 22, 1934, in Springfield, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Surviving are one brother, Raymond (Ginny) Emory of Honolulu, and two sisters, Shirley (Harold) Yates of Goreville, Ill., and Marilyn "Pat" (Arthur) Storts of Peoria Heights, Ill.
Helen worked as a salesperson for Grimm Appliance in Morton for many years, retiring in 1964. She also had worked at Libby's and Krug's Market, both in Morton.
She attended First Baptist Church of Morton and was a member of Kennel Lake Sportsman's Club in Morton for many years.
Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Morton, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Shaw officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Deer Creek at a later date. Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Morton Building Fund, 900 E. Jefferson St., Morton, IL 61550.
