MILTON ELMER BATES, 72, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007, at home. Born Sept. 25, 1934, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Daniel and Emma Bates. He retired from Slater Steel in 1999. Survived by his wife, Alice S. Bates; daughters, Lydia C. Bates of Fort Wayne, Deanna K. Bates of Georgia, Elise D. Davis and Falecia D. (Kelvin) Bazile, both of Fort Wayne; son, Marcus Allen Hill of Philadelphia, Pa.; brothers, Charles "Nate" Bates of California, Homer Bright and Alfred Bates; and 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Benita L. White; and his brother, John Bright. Service was 11 a.m. Saturday at True Love Missionary Baptist Church. Calling was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carmichael Funeral Service, Fort Wayne. (Published in Fort Wayne Newspapers on April 12, 2007)
