ALICE S. BATES, 72, of Fort Wayne, departed this life on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at her home surrounded by loving family members as she made her transition into eternal life. A native of Village Springs, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Odena Vann and Everloise (Vann) Davis. In 1958, she married Milton E. Bates. She retired from General Electric in 2000. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of True Love Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughters, Lydia C. Bates, Deanna K. Bates, Elise D. Davis, and Felecia D. (Kelvin) Bazile; stepfather, Rev. Franklin L. Davis; sister, Annie M. Robinson; son-in-law, James R. White; 13 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her husband Milton; special grandmother, Addie L. Swann; and daughter, Benita Lynn White. Service were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at True Love Baptist Church. Calling was from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the church. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery with arrangements by the Ellis Funeral Home.
