Mrs. Herman Herzberg

Yorktown, Aug. 19--(Special Correspondence of the Journal)--Mrs. Herman Herzberg died Aug. 14, 1914, at her home in Nodaway township. She was born in Hanover, Germany, Feb. 17, 1847, and was confirmed in the Lutheran church, when 14 years of age, at Wechholtz [sic], Germany.

She came to America in 1867, first coming to Cook county, Ill. Her maiden name was Dorothea Herzog. In Cook county she was married to Herman Herzberg in 1870, and soon after moved to Page county and settled upon the farm which has since been their home. To this union twelve children were born, seven of whom are living and with the husband and two half sisters of Mrs. Herzberg, Mrs. J. H. Herzberg of Nodaway township and Mrs. Louis Sunderman of Sotland [sic], S. D., are left to mourn. The children are Mrs. William Busing, Mrs. William Bartels, Dick H. Herzberg, Mrs. Henry Nothwehr, Ed Herzberg, and Joseph and George, still at home. The deceased died of heart failure, following a complication of diseases. She was of a very lovable disposition, endearing herself to all who knew her, and will be missed by a wide circle of friends besides relatives. Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the house, conducted by Rev. C. H. Jaebker. The singing was led by Mr. Moeller, the German teacher. After burial at the Lutheran cemetery the sermon was preached at the church. The floral pieces which were many and beautiful were placed upon the newly made grave. Charley Chamberlain of Clarinda took a picture of the flowers at the house, at the request of the children.
