The Mesdames Otto Herzberg, R R Oehler, Max Snodderly and Miss Florence Wagoner were in charge of the flowers. Interment took place in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery northwest of Clarinda.

Dorothea Maria Elizabeth Herzberg, daughter of Herman and Margaret Herzberg, was born November 24, 1874 on a farm northwest of Clarinda.

On February 23, 1898, she was united in holy wedlock to William Bartels. Soon after their marriage they made their home on a farm near Page Center. After a stay of three years they moved to a farm northwest of Immanuel Lutheran church. From 1911 to 1914 they lived on a farm near Riverdale, Nebr, then moved back to the former farm northwest of Immanuel Lutheran church. Since 1927 they had been living in Clarinda.

The Lord blessed their union with six children, three sons and three daughters. A son, Albert, and a daughter, Martha, preceded their mother in death.

Mrs. Bartels had not been in the best of health in recent years. On the third of May she became seriously ill. On Saturday evening, June 19 [1954], the Lord summoned her from this vale of tears at the age of 79 years, six months and 26 days.

Her death is mourned by her beloved husband, William Bartels; two sons, Herman, Greeley, Colo, and Walter, Clarinda; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Buch and Mrs. George Dammann, Clarinda; two sons-in-law, Ed Buch and George Dammann; three daughters-in-law, the Mesdames Herman Bartels, Walter Bartels, and Hattie Bartels; four brothers, Dick, George, Joe and Ed Herzberg; one sister, Mrs. Henry Nothwehr; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
