Emigrated to Sangamon Co, IL in the year 1834. Represented County in General Assembly of State of Illinois in years 1840, 1842, 1846, and 1852. Drafted bill and secured passagte of bill which led to the Illinois State Agricultural Society.

We regret to hear of the death of Capt. James N. Brown, of Sangamon county, well known as a large farmer and livestock dealer. Capt. Brown was one of the pioneers of Central Illinois. He has filled many places of honor and trust. He died suddenly, on the 16th, at his residence.
