Bertha Bancroft, Dies At Casper


Mrs. Bertha Bancroft, 71, died May 7 at a Casper Nursing Home. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Mortuary in Lusk Monday at 2:00 p.m., with burial in the Lusk Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Boutwell officiated.

Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, organist, accompanied Tim Johnson as he sang "Beyond the Sunset and "Beautiful Isle."

Casket bearers were her grandsons, Larry Riley, Dave Bancroft, Tom Bancroft, Jerry Owens, and serving for Bob Bancroft who is with the U.S. Army in Vietnam was Jim Kofakis, and for Harold Spear, husband of granddaughter Jean Riley Spear was Dale Miller.

She was born May 16, 1899, at Kirtley, Wyo. to Marian Nelson and John A. Deuel. She married Robert L. Bancroft at Harrison, Neb., September 18, 1917. She worked as a postmaster at Van Tassell from 1942 until August of 1964 when she retired and with her husband moved to Casper.

Her husband, one daughter, three sisters and her parents died previously.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Pete (Donna) Owens, Casper; Mrs. Kenneth (Maxine) Riley, Las Vegas, Nev., one son, David Charles Bancroft, Big Piney, Wyo., two brothers, Leo Deuel, Wheatland, and E. Floyd Deuel, Cheyenne; and seven grandchildren.
