Mutineer. Able-bodied Seaman on the HMS Bounty. In January 1789, during the Bounty's five-month stay in Tahiti, Millward joined crewmates Charles Churchill and William Muspratt in deserting the ship. All three were captured and Commander William Bligh sentenced them to 48 lashes each. Millward waivered in choosing sides during the mutiny on April 28, 1789, but in the end he stayed with the Bounty. In 1791 he was captured in Tahiti by a search party from the HMS Pandora; he survived the sinking of that ship in August and was subsequently condemned by a court-martial in England. On October 29, 1792, Millward and fellow mutineers Thomas Burkett and Thomas Ellison were hanged aboard the HMS Brunswick in Spithead, England.
