His middle name was "Walker". As was often the case, the U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 incorrectly recorded his name as "Tazewell Waller Baird" and that morphed into "Tazewell Walter Baird".
"Walker" was a family name. When Tazewell Baird submitted his Application for the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR Membership Number 43769), he substantiated his claim as a descendant of the Honorable Felix Walker, DAR Ancestor Number A121103. (Reference Find A Grave Memorial# 124718622.)
The son of Colonel John Walker, Felix Walker was a member of a prestigious family in Rutherford County, North Carolina. Colonel Walker, DAR Ancestor Number A119449, had signed the Tryon Resolves which predated the Declaration of Independence by a year. Colonel Walker's great grandfather (and thus ancestor of Tazewell Baird) was George Walker, Governor of Londonderry during the siege 18 April to 28 July 1689. For a skeletal biography of Colonel Walker, please reference Find A Grave Memorial# 133634079, the memorial of Felix Walker's brother, William Walker, one of the Heroes who fought at the Battle of King's Mountain.
