Mrs. Maria Nichols Coonce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Nichols of this place, died at the home of her parents on Tuesday night of last week. All the family had retired for the night but her mother who was fixing the covers around her when she took a coughing spell and bleeding of the lungs, and died in less than 5 minutes. She only spoke once saying "I think I am going now", and quietly passed over the river without a struggle.
She was born May 11, 1871, and was married to Joseph Coonce, February 2, 1888. To them were born 2 children, Annie and Johnnie. Maria has been afflicted for about 2 years, and has suffered untold pain. She bore all of her afflictions with Christian patience at all times. About 16 months ago she called her parents and brothers and sisters together and held a family prayer meeting. At that time she bid them all good bye thinking her time on earth was short. She revived, however, and was moved to her mother's at this place who ever since has watched over her with tender care as only a mother can. The funeral services were held at the house Thursday afternoon, Rev. John W. Parrett officiating. After the services the remains were escorted to the Thomas Cemetery by friends and relatives and quietly laid away to moulder back to mother dust.
