Major League Baseball Player. Was 20 years old when he had his major league debut on September 29, 1948 with the Chicago Cubs. In his career he was a catcher for the Cubs, the Chicago White Sox, the Milwaukee Braves, the Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals. While with the Braves, he was a key player in helping them win the 1957 World Series and the 1958 National League pennant. After his retirement from baseball, he served as the general manager of the Class AA Texas League team known as the Arkansas Travelers. In 1976, he became the president of the Texas League and remained in this position until his death.
