Landscape architect and park designer. Jensen is regarded as a major conservationist who incorporated native plants and wildflowers in his park designs. He worked with such architects as Louis Henry Sullivan (1856-1924) and Frank Llyod Wright (1869-1959). He also worked on other projects, such as Chicago parks and open spaces, the Illinois state park system, conserving forest preserves near Chicago, and what is now the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Jensen founded a school of the arts, humanities, and natural sciences at "The Clearing," on his property in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, that exists to this day. The Jens Jensen Legacy Project was formed in 2000 by the City of Chicago to perpetuate his work and ideals.
