Kelly, 20, died north of Tallil, Iraq, when his truck crashed during a sandstorm. Kelly was assigned to the 596th Maintenance Company, 3rd Corps Support Command, V Corps, Darmstadt, Germany. He joined the U.S. Army after high school graduation, met his wife, also a soldier, during training, and was married while abroad in 2002. He leaves his wife, Jessica, of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and the couple's daughter, Aalexis, 15 months. Also surviving are his parents Leroy Harris Jr. and Guiselle Harris-Kelly, sister Guisley, 15, all of Azusa, two sets of grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. When his body was recovered, a small Bible was found in his pocket, said friend David Alfaro, who eulogized Kelly. "He was our hero. He was too young to die,' Alfaro said. Kelly received the Bronze Star and an Overseas Service ribbon at the funeral. The funeral included a 21-gun salute following the playing of taps and two American flags were given - one to his wife, the other to his mother. Twenty-four veterans from the Irwindale Burial Honor Guard presided at the burial at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Covina Hills, along with the U.S. Army's Honor Guard from Fort Irwin.
