He was born Jan. 25, 1918, in Belvidere Township, Minn., to Karl and Margaret (Mohr) Kehren and attended school through the eighth grade. He was a bricklayer for his father.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from May 9, 1942, until being honorably discharged Sept. 27, 1945, at Separation Point, Camp Polk, La.
He married Ruby Von Helmst, and they later divorced.
In 1963, he married Roberta Gorski, and they divorced.
He was a bricklayer and worked on many large buildings in the local area, and also did fireplaces. He lived in Red Wing and Hager City until 1984, when he retired and moved to Webster. He enjoyed his home in the woods, where he could hunt and fish. He moved to Frederic in July to be near friends, as his health was failing. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and a 50-year member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps
He is survived by: his children, Arlo of Woodbury, Minn., Gary (Rita) of Boyceville, Rick (Jacquie) of Woodbury, Jeff, Lou (Les) Alloway and Mona (Paul) Bell, all of New Richmond, Linda Kehren (Robert) of Milwaukee, and Rhonda, Rudy, Randy and Rheana of Atlanta; his brothers, William (Hazel) of Lake City, Minn., Victor of Burnsville, Minn., Reno of Savage, Minn., and Frederick "Fritz" (Lottie) of New Prague, Minn.; his sisters, Margaret (Harlan) Nelson of Bay City, Marion (Roy) Schafer of Red Wing, Frances Klein of Isle, Minn., Alice (Frederick) Sprick of Lake City and Jean (James) Halling of Mazeppa, Minn.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his extended family including Gordie (Angie) Chelmo of Frederic, Lee (Susie) Robbins, Sean and Luke Kirchner of River Falls, Joe (Sue) Kirchner of Webster, Jamie Kirchner of Mankato, Minn., Jennifer and Randy Hanson of Siren.
Preceding him in death were one sister, Hazel Hendel; and one brother, Charles.
Funeral was last Tuesday at Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster, with the Rev. Doug Quenzer officiating. A committal service was to be Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, with the Rev. Steve Ward officiating.
