Mr. Kenneth Irvin, a former Creelsboro businessman, died Monday, May 22, at the age of 74 at the Taylor County Hospital. Mr. Irvin had been in declining health for the past several months.

Kenneth, with the help of his wife, Emma Lena, operated the W.K. Irvin General Store in Creelsboro for 25 years. Kenneth had helped his father, Mr. J.D. Irvin, in the store for several years, and when Jim died in 1952, Kenneth took over the general store. Kenneth operated the store until his declining health no longer permitted him to take care of the business. In August, 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin sold their store to Mrs. Linda Collins and Mrs. Becky Rogers.

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin operated the store during the years when Creelsboro was a thriving community and in the early years was an important trading center. Mr. Irvin was a member of the Creelsboro Nazarene Church.

Mr. Irvin is survived by his wife, Emma Lena; one daughter, Mrs. Rema Sullivan of Louisville.

Funeral services for Mr. Irvin were held Thursday, May 25, at the H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapels, with Rev. J.B. Root and Bro. Robert Brown officiating. Joe Campbell, Jack Miller, Rollin Flatt, Lewis Bell, Frank Johnson and Kenneth Miller served as pallbearers.

Interment was in the Campbell Cemetery at Creelsboro.

I transcribed an oral interview tape from Mr. Irvin that is located in the Russell County Library if you want to read it, hear it, or order it a copy.
