Sue was a graduate of Salem NY Central Schools and Empire State College of NY. She worked in the field of radiology and was recently retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, where she had been employed in Nuclear Medicine for 22 years.
Sue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rensselaer, NY, and was active in the Nassau-East Greenbush Community Band, the Festival Collaboration Choir of Albany and numerous other community organizations, including the Nassau Beautification Committee and the "Red Hat Society" which is a fun group for women over 50 (they wear red hats and purple clothing as a statement! - see above picture).
A"celebration of life" service was held for Sue on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church. This service was even televised by Fox 23 news for its uniqueness. Sue did not want a conventional wake and funeral. In addition to traditional Christian hymns, selections were played from The Sound of Music, Christmas music (because it was her favorite holiday), the Minute Waltz by Chopin, and by her own request before her passing, the closing song was "When The Saints Go Marching In" and everyone sang and clapped in unison. In addition to her daughter Shaun reading a beautiful poem which was her mom's favorite, people spoke about how she touched their lives; these includes women from her job at the VA Nuclear Medicine Department, the First Presbyterian Church, the Nassau Beautification Society, the Red Hat Society and Caring Together (ovarian cancer support group).
Memorial contributions to Caring Together Incorporated (ovarian cancer).
