Born in Oak Park, IL, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Miles and Caroline Anna (Maas) Coate and widow of Claude Phillip Russell (1905-1997).
Attended Oak Park High School, National Park Jr. College, the University of Wisconsin; was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, the Junior League of Chicago, IL and Morganton, NC, First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, Newcomer's Club, and The Shepherd's Center.
Survivors include her children, David P. (Patty) Russell, Susan (John) Denniston, and Sandra R. (John) Hartnett; three granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren.
Also predeceased by a brother, Weldon Robert Coate (1908–1972).
Graveside services were held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Nazareth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. David H. Sutton.
Visitation followed at the graveside.
Memorials could be made to The Shepherd's Center, Spartanburg, SC.
