Castilian Royalty. She was the daughter of Count Sancho Garces and therefore, by direct line, descendant of the Lara dynasty of Castile. She became queen of Navarre having married (1010) King Sancho III known as the Great, and thanks to this marriage it was possible, at the death of her father, a political union between the county of Castile and the Navarrese kingdom, being her brother Garcia still a minor. In 1029, Munia Major became Countess of her native region following the assassination of her brother at the hands of some noble dissidents. After the death of her husband, she abandoned court life by retiring to a convent and giving up her titles.
