Inventor. An engineer by trade, he was considered by many to have changed the game of golf forever with his uniquely designed Ping golf clubs. His first putter, known as the Ping 1A, received a patent on March 23, 1959 while Karsten was employed by General Electric. In 1966 he founded Karsten Manufacturing Company headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona and designed the Ping Anser putter. Karsten's designed and manufactured clubs have been used to win more than 1,800 professional events around the world. In May 1988 he was presented the President's "E" Award for Export Expansion by President Ronald Reagan. He died of complications from Parkinson's disease.
