Poet and songwriter. He and Hakashu Kitahara were leaders in the development of nursery songs in Japan. Among his works are "Golden Star,""Red Shoes" and "Seven Children." He also wrote a variety of popular and folk songs, including Sendo Kota," "Habu Port" and "Moon on a Full Moon Night." There is a museum in his honor at Ibaraki-city, his birthplace.
