Painter. He was an American painter of Western landscapes, Indian genre, figure compositions and portraits. He was the son of German immigrants. After high school, he studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago for five year and at the Royal Academy in Munich for two years. At the dawn of World War I, he left Germany returning to Chicago as a commercial artist and being recognized for his talent. By 1921, he was in New Mexico painting in his style of bright colors. By 1924 he was a member of the Taos Society of Artists in New Mexico. He received twelve national prizes between 1916 and 1938.
