Early socialist feminist. In her 1904 autobiography, she expressed her views on becoming a woman and aspiring to a modern notion of selfhood which could include participation in public political activity. She also sought to articulate a feminist and socialist consciousness against the backdrop of nationalism, politics, and gender construction in Japan. Later in life, Fukuda expressed the sentiment that men were generally untrustworthy and of little use.
