Jesse Simcox was mustered into Company G of the Twenty Third Pennsylvania Volunteers on august 3rd 1861. Not long after that Louis Hillebrand of Company B resigned and on August 31st 1862 , Lt Jesse Simcox was promoted to Captain of Company B.Little is known of his military carrer except that he was absent at the muster out (most likely due to illness). He moved to Camden County NJ and worked on as a hired farm hand and died there. He is buried in the old Blackwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The church which disbanded in the 1950's lost all the records of the burials.
