Born c.1736 to British colonists, Margaret Leonard was the first Caucasian child to be born in Princeton. Her gravestone, which is the oldest in the cemetery, states that she was the wife of Whitehead Leonard, and that she died in her 24th year. As is typical of steles from the 1760's and earlier in the Mid-Atlantic area, Mrs. Leonard's features a "winged skull" soul effigy in its tympanum, and was cut from brown sandstone.
