OBITUARY.
ANDERSON — Died, in this city, on Sunday, July 15th, Carrie L., eldest daughter of William R. and Annie M. Anderson.
Thus passed from earth one of its purest and sweetest flowers, at the early and promising age of thirteen. We had hoped that her's was to be a long life. It was so full of beauty, and so replete with the promise of usefulness and activity, that we thought it must needs linger to bless mankind in a ministry of love and helpfulness. When the old die, we say "it is well, for such is the order of nature." But when a life like this is but permitted to touch the earth in a benediction of mercy, and then is snatched away, we stand baffled and amazed in the presence of the seemingly lawless dispensation that can enact such decrees. And yet it is only the feebleness of human vision that closes its own perspection so abrubtly. God knows better than we, and there can be no doubt but that the mission of this little one was accomplished. Ten thousand times better is our earth for such lives as this. Better arc tbe hearts that have loved and lost; better is the household with its vacant chair; better is the Sabbath school with its broken class, for the fleeting visitation of this heavenly messenger. Such a life as Carrie's is far richer in a golden fruitage than many an one that closes amid hoary hairs and under the weight of years.
Last winter she gave her youthful heart and life to Jesus, to be His, living or dying. We prayed then that she might live to be a help to the church and the world. We thought she would. But her Master wanted her above, and so he took her. Oh, lovely, blessed life to be so little stained by the impurity of earth; glorious future almost unsoiled by sin and shadow.
Her stricken family, her pastor and teacher, and her playmates, all miss her, but we could not wish her back, because it would be such loss to her. In thankful resignation we bow to the will of God, and bless Him for the fragrant breath of her sweet young life. — F.
