Mildred was the daughter of Charles Caylor Postlewaite and Clara Ethel Means. She married Paul Revere Abbey in July 1925 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD. She died in the Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Home woman killed in crash of Route 286
An elderly woman died Tuesday afternoon in a Pittsburgh hospital, succumbing to injuries sustained earlier yesterday in a crash near Indiana. It was one of four traffic accidents reported today by area police officials. The summary:
o Mildred Postlewait [sic] Abbey, 83, of Home, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh, as the result of injuries sustained in a two-car crash on Route 286 in White Township at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to state police in Indiana.
Mrs. Abbey taught for 20 years in Marion Center School District's Plumville grade school before retiring in 1970.
She is survived by her husband, Paul R. Abbey. She was the mother of novelist Edward Abbey, Tucson, Ariz., and is survived [by] two other sons, Howard D., Chambersville, and William T., Honolulu, Hawaii, and a daughter, Nancy, of San Jose, Calif. A complete obituary appears on page 30.
Police said Mrs. Abbey was the driver of a car that collided with a pickup truck driven by Richard Walker, 45, of Dayton RD 2, on Stonebraker Hill.
Mrs. Abbey was taken by ambulance to Indiana Hospital and then flown to Presbyterian-University Hospital where she died at 2 p.m. She was pronounced dead there by Dr. D.E. Ukekivu, police said.
Walker suffered a minor injury in the crash but refused treatment at the scene, according to police.
Police said Mrs. Abbey was traveling east on Route 286 and crossed into the westbound lane where her car collided with the Walker truck. Police said she apparently was trying to make a left turn into a private parking area.
The Abbey car was severely damaged while the pickup truck had only minor damage, according to police.
