Private John McKissick was a member of The Twenty Third Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Company F. He was mustered into service in September of 1862 and immediately trained and sent out. He fought with the unit until he was captured at Mine Run in November of 1863. John was immediately sent to Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He got ill most likely from the poor sanitary conditions, and died of Diarrea on April 18th, 1864. The winter of 1863 was a brutal one and many men died during the cold and damp months of these conditions. He is buried in grave 605 at The Andersonville National Cemetery.
